10 favorite ladies of trek [10/10]: jadzia dax

  • finally, my favorite trek lady. my favorite trek character. my favorite character, period. jadzia dax is a rare pleasure to watch and fall in love with: she’s funny, she’s confident, she’s compassionate, she’s smart, and she’s so, so full of life. she’s an amazing friend, a true warrior, a passionate lover, and she treats every day like it’s a surprise gift she’s found wrapped up behind the bloodwine in the liquor cabinet.  i try, every day, to approach life like jadzia dax does. it’s hard for me to speak eloquently about her, because she fills me with so many feelings, so i’ll let someone else do it: “she is fulfilling her part of the bargain, enriching both ‘dax’ and her own life experiences by embracing all the possibilities available to her. this is what makes the character interesting: she is, in her way, the most perfect expression of the original star trek ethos, the joy and wonder of exploration and discovery” [x].

10 favorite ladies of trek [4/10]: ezri dax

  • it’s hard to follow an act like jadzia dax, but ezri does the best she can. unexpectedly thrust into being a joined trill, ezri becomes alienated from both her family and former life after she becomes “a dax.” instead of giving up and breaking down, ezri seeks out the people who can bring her home to herself: benjamin sisko and the rest of the crew of deep space 9. initially uncertain of herself, ezri becomes empowered as a successful ship’s counselor after helping garak overcome his claustrophobia. she continues on to become a critical fighting member of the federation’s war against the dominion, even surviving brutal capture by a merciless enemy.  although trill law would prevent her from reuniting with jadzia’s husband, worf, ezri follows her heart to a rekindled romance with worf through to the inevitable conclusion that is right for her: just friendship. instead, her formerly platonic relationship with julian bashir develops into something more. ezri goes from a broken, confused novice to a self-confident, assured new individual. not just a dax—but ezri dax.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine | 1993-1999
This is where the adventure is. This is where heroes are made.

ALL THE FEELINGS

Epic gifset. Look at Baby Jake turning into Full Grown Man Jake!

I think the saddest one is Bashir.  He’s so wide-eyed and full of optimism at the beginning and by the end, he’s seen friends die after years of war.  The galaxy is a harsher, uglier place to him now, and you can see it in his face.

Why you break my heart, cornballer? ;___;

I sowwy!  Here’s a flipside for ya: take Kira and Odo.  Since childhood, Kira’s life was defined by violence at the hands of alien oppressors.  Until she was assigned to DS9, she never knew a life without fighting.  Odo faced different struggles, facing outright suspicion and distrust from “solids,” all the while dealing with the torment of not knowing who he was or where he came from.  And yet, despite all this pain, somehow, in the unfathomable chaos that is the universe, these two souls found each other and, through each other, came to know love, happiness, and peace.

Hope that helps ;o)

That’s more like it. I am mollified.

BUT THEY ARE SEPARATED AT THE END OF THE SERIES AND WHAT IF THEY NEVER MEET AGAIN?

But they WILL meet again. They must. And they will make squishy love forever and ever.

I got all weirded out because when I was trying to give you shit about people not meeting again ‘If We Ever Meet Again’ came round on iTunes. And I was like, a) this song is all the things I hate but it’s so fucking catchy, b) KATY PERRY AND TIMBALAND ARE YOU SOMEHOW TROLLING ME? c) in fifteen to twenty years I think this song will be the new ‘Never Gonna Give You Up.’

In conclusion, of course they will, somehow, and so will Julian and Garak, and you know what? Quark and Grilka. And I think Lwaxana will insist on throwing Odo and Kira a huge embarrassing wedding and will want to give Odo away, on the grounds that he was her husband first, even if it was a bit bogus. And Jadzia and K’Ehleyr are just hanging out in Sto-Vo-Kor drinking bloodwine spritzers and being BFFS and waiting for Worf to get there so they can mess with his mind about having two parmach’i waiting for him.

EVERYONE WILL HAVE HAPPY ENDINGS, EVEN IF SOME ARE DEFERRED TO A VERY NOISY AND BOOZY AFTERLIFE.

“Lwaxana will insist on throwing Odo and Kira a huge embarrassing wedding and will want to give Odo away, on the grounds that he was her husband first, even if it was a bit bogus.”

WAAAAAAAAANT.
